For as long as I can remember I've been reading and writing stories. They've always been very special for me. I love the idea that people can connect with each other by sharing a love of a created world or characters from a story they relate to. My hope is that by sharing my passion for writing and creating with you, it inspires you to do what you love. I hope you enjoy what I've created and find yourself getting caught up in the story and losing track of time.
My Background
Characters
Allysson Fugitt
I have always loved the idea of exploring the complexities of imperfect characters and situations that make you step outside of your comfort zone and really think about what you would do and what you think is right or acceptable. I think we live in a world that's much more gray than black and white and I find it interesting to explore some of the gray area in my writing.
Genres
I love to blend genres together and most of my writing tends to combine genres heavily. I love psychological thriller stories and that tends to show in my stories. I also enjoy mystery, fantasy, science fiction, adventure, and horror. I value making meaningful connections between characters and giving characters a chance to show you that there's more to them then you might see at a first glance. People are complex and I think stories are more interesting when they include that complexity.
Influences
I grew up reading mysteries like Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes. I also read a good amount of horror including Stephen King and R.L. Stein. Fantasy has also always had a special place in my heart and science fiction as well. I grew up watching older horror movies with my mom and I learned a good bit about how they created creatures and did the makeups. It really inspired me to see how they create things that don't exist and turn them into iconic figures. I'm also very interested in psychology and how it impacts our everyday lives as well as how we interact with others. I have had some challenging experiences in my own life that inspire me to create characters that are also challenged in their own ways and have to find their way through. Another big influence in my writing is the inspirational women who become the heroes of their own stories. When I was growing up there weren't many women who got to be the hero in stories and I want to create more heroes that are different so that everyone can have heroes like them to look up to.
Human connection
Most of all, I love the idea of stories bringing people together. I love the idea of stepping into a character that's nothing like you and gaining a new perspective. The ability of stories to transform our world and our view of others is like magic and I'm happy to share that magic with others who love it too.
